ESSAY TWO REVISION ASSIGNMENT
Now that your essays have been graded, here is your opportunity to revise. I want you to use the feedback you were given and put all of the components of the worksheet together to formulate one, complete, comprehensive, five paragraph essay that specifically addresses your chosen prompt.
1) Read all of the essay instructions. ALL OF THEM.
2) Reread your chosen prompt.
3) Take a look at your comments for Essay 2.
4) Read your essay out loud.
5) Use the feedback you have been given to revise your essay.
6) Read it out loud again.
This revision will be graded as a final draft. There will be little commenting; only a rubric scoring will be used. Plenty of comments were provided on the frist draft of the outline.
ESSAY TWO INSTRUCTIONS for your convenience:
Borough of Manhattan Community College City
University of New York Department of English
The questions below are based on the articles you have studied in class. You should have a copy of each annotated article with you. Choose only ONE question to answer. Be sure your essay addresses all parts of the question.
You are permitted to use two writing aids on this exam: (1) a dictionary, and (2) notes on the articles that you made in the margins or blank spaces of the exam readings. Any outside sources used on the exam will disqualify you from the essay and result in a 0. Not addressing one of the prompts below will result in a 0.
As you develop your essay, make sure that you provide sufficient support and explanation by integrating examples (at least two direct quotes) from the both readings, “My Misspent Youth” by Meghan Daum and “The Great Regression” by By Matt Altis in your essay. Failure to incorporate both readings will result in failure of the essay.
Analyze your examples to show their relevance to your argument. Use your own observations, experiences, or other sources to develop your claims. When you cite directly from the readings, use proper MLA page citation.
You will save your essay as a Word document (.doc or .docx) using Microsoft Office, Google Docs (File->Download->Microsoft Word), Pages (File-> Export to->Word…) or other word processor, and attach that document to the assignment below: “ESSAY TWO REVISION ASSIGNMENT :: Turn in Here.”
Do not write your essay in the “Comments” box.
This box is so that you can leave a note or “comment” for your professor about your essay that you have submitted.
You may use a paper dictionary and the notes you wrote directly on the exam readings to assist you in writing your essay.
Remember to:
Develop a thesis that takes a clear stance or position.
Organize your thoughts — an outline can help do this.
Do not use the outline on this rewrite. Use MLA Essay Format and Citations
Use MLA in-text citation to support your claim with quotes or paraphrases from BOTH readings. (You must use at least one cited quote from each reading).
Pick One of the following:
1) Does social media serve as a parent of a generation of people? Why or why not? Explain.
2) In what ways does media help humans be more or less responsible? Take a strong stance. Then explain.
3) Some people believe that media has made us all observers and less participators (participants). What is the connection between? Take a stand.
BMCC’s Policy Regarding Plagiarism:
Plagiarism is the presentation of someone else’s ideas, words, or artistic/scientific/technical work as one’s own creation. A student who copies or paraphrases published or on-line material, or another person’s research, without properly identifying the source(s) is committing plagiarism.
Plagiarism violates the ethical and academic standards of our college. Students will be held responsible for such violations, even when unintentional. To avoid unintended plagiarism, students should consult with their instructors about when and how to document their sources. The library also has both print and digital guides designed to help students cite sources correctly.
Plagiarism carries a range of penalties commensurate with severity of the infraction. The instructor may, for example, require the work to be redone, reduce the course grade, fail the student in the course, or refer the case to the Faculty-Student Disciplinary Committee (see Article 15.4 of the Bylaws of the Board of Trustees). Cases referred to that committee could result in suspension or expulsion from the college.
Please Note: My policy is to fail the assignment and report the offense.
make sure the outline I’ve provided be turned into a five paragraph essay. It is due tonight.
