In 2021, the Texas government released a study of projected growth in trade at the Texas-Mexico border, which expands 1,254 miles in length. Mexico is the state of Texas’s #1 trade partner. However, a major issue at the border is the problem of transnational criminal elements that are heavily involved with the lucrative illicit trade of drug trafficking. Students will demonstrate their understanding of personal and social responsibility, critical thinking, and communication by writing a paper to their congressman which identifies a point of concern for the student that synthesizes the two challenges faced by the state of Texas and the federal government of expanding points of access to trade while also curbing the threat of illicit drug trafficking in their own community and state.
Below you will find the rubric that will be used to grade your submission for this assignment, as well as all of the resources you will need to be successful. This will include the primary documents that need to be examined, as well as a citation style guide with an example of how to use the primary resources within the citation format.
