Assignment: In this out-of-class essay, you will develop an argument paper that makes a convincing argument and persuades your reader to see your position. The topic you choose must lend itself to argument. You should appeal to your audience’s intellect and reason as you attempt to persuade them to see your side of the issue. I would suggest formulating your thesis statement using the word “should.” Example: Credit card companies should be banned from soliciting business on college campuses. For Essay 5, you will take Essay 4 and add research sources to the paper, so think ahead about a topic that will lend it self to finding credible library research sources. Please avoid overused topics unless you can develop a new, original angle to argue your point; many of such topics have been overdeveloped to the extent that plagiarism can too easily occur; so please avoid these unless you have an original angle (and clear with me first): death penalty, abortion rights, legal drinking age, legalization of marijuana, prayer in school, gay marriage, and gun control. Please look at the topics in this unit that I suggest. Any of these should work well for the purpose of this essay.
General Purpose: To argue a point using logic. To persuade your audience to see your side of the issue by appealing to their intellect and reason.

Details: The details in this paper are the examples of evidence you provide.
Word Range: Min. 650+ words (5 or more paragraphs)
