Use Framework Ch. 3 (link to chapter is attched as a PDF) and write your answers to the following questions. Answers should be 1 to 2 sentences long.
1. On p. 153, what is a reason the text gives for why developing phonological awareness is crucial?
2. On p. 155, what does the text say about which units of speech children attend to and manipulate first? Is it larger units? or smaller units?
3. On p. 181, look at the examples in the text of teaching phonological awareness on the right-hand column of the table. Select one that looks interesting to you. Tell me what it is, what it teaches and why it looks interesting.
4. On p. 215, look at the example in the text of adding & substituting phonemes to make new words. Provide an example of orally changing ONE phoneme in the word “hop” to make a new word. Which phoneme do you ask the children to change to another phoneme? What is the new phoneme? (be sure to use slanted lines when writing phonemes) What would the new word be?
