Pick one of the short stories from Module 3:
“A Good Man is Hard to Find”
“Everyday Use”
In a 400- to 600-word essay, analyze ONE literary element (such as symbolism, imagery, foreshadowing, etc) to show/prove that ONE theme (see Common Literary Themes) is present. Using MLA format and style, integrate TWO secondary sources using the “TJC Library Resources” (left-hand menu).
Submit the essay with a Works Cited page as one Word document. The Works Cited page should follow MLA and include at least three citations (the primary source [the story] and two secondary sources [literary criticism found through the databases in TJC Library Resources]). Use the Resources module and the textbook to support your learning and success on this assignment. Some topics you should review: thesis, literary analysis, terms, integrating quotes, MLA.
Grading
The assignment is worth 100 points and it is graded using the following rubric:
Thesis Statement 20 pts
Paragraph development and understanding of literature 40 pts
Correct use of grammar/mechanics and MLA form 20 pts
Works Cited page 10 pts
Sources and integration 10 pts
