As a medical-surgical floor nurse, after a long discussion with my preceptor, we elaborated on how leadership plays a significant role in improving the quality of care and enhancing patient satisfaction. As med-surgical floor nurses, we typically handle a caseload of patients with common diagnoses of scheduled patients or those who have recovered from surgery (Bäck et al., 2019). We need leadership in this setting to help us share a common goal that will empower us to have a clear vision that aligns with the organizational culture for value, safety, and high-quality care, especially in applying evidence-based practice holistic approach. The other thing I learned from my discussion with my preceptor is that leadership models can be employed to encourage staff commitment, encourage active participation, enhance agreement in shared goals, and support all departments in the healthcare institution. The key takeaway was that as a medical-surgical nurse, I must apply the best leadership model to enhance patient outcomes. I learned that I should embrace participative and servant leadership styles in my duties as I integrate them into implementing EBP to enhance patient outcomes. Lastly, we concluded that consistent leadership maximizes the chances of us successfully implementing the EBP culture in the institution. Moreover, in discussing how economic models can optimize EBP to enhance patient outcomes, we discovered that we could utilize the approaches that CDSS uses to evaluate their economic interventions for disease control and prevention, especially for our patients that have undergone hip and knee replacement, amputation, sepsis and those that suffered injury from falls (Dopp et al., 2019). The economic models we can use in optimizing EBP include the cost-benefit analysis that applies value to all benefits and costs resulting from the interventions. The second economic model to utilize is the cost-effectiveness analysis, which will show us the indirect and the direct expenses and the savings from the elements of the health outcome. We can apply it when comparing two interventions.
