we will develop a professional toolkit by crowdsourcing entries to an Early
Literacy Resource Collection Portfolio. Entries will be due on various checkpoints
throughout the course but can be completed early. Your entries must be submitted
as separate comments in the resource collection forums. Each entry must
include the name of the resource, relevant information to access the resource
(such as author, website, location, etc.), and a 2-3 sentence description. The
description should specify what age/audience would benefit from the resource, and
describe how it supports children, caregivers, and communities with early literacy
development, cultural fluency, social-emotional skills, etc.
You will contribute:
o (1) Book that is great for infants (0-24 months)
o (1) Book that is great for toddlers (18-36 months)
o (1) Book that is great for preschoolers (3-5 yrs)

o (2) Websites, books, or other professional resources for librarians/educators
working with children ages 0-5 and their caregivers. This may include resources
for developing storytimes, lesson plans, and programming.
o (2) Websites, books, and other resource for caregivers that support the at-home
learning, play, or healthy development of children ages 0-5.
o (1) Digital tools, games, apps, or podcasts that provide interactive early learning
experiences for children ages 0-5 years.
o (1) Goal-aligned partners that support the educational, social, emotional, health,
and/or socioeconomic welfare of children in your community (town, county, state,
etc).
o (2) Early literacy tips focusing on how families can engage with their children
(these should be different than the 4 tips in your storytime plan).
Grading Criteria:
o Each resource entry will be worth 2 points
o Each resource entry should have clear information about what the resource is
(such as title, author, format description, date) and instructions on how to access
the resource (such as a URL or downloading an app)
o Each entry should include a 2-3 sentence annotation describing the target
audience for the resource, the developmental benefits of the resource, tips for
using the resource, etc. It should be clear to the instructor why this resource is
being included in the toolkit.
o Resources will be evaluated on completion, inclusivity, diversity, creativity,
health, and linguistic needs of children and families.
o Points will be docked for the resource entries that are incomplete, difficult to
understand, missing, or submitted late
