PART I: Resource List
1. Identify 30 culturally and linguistically diverse books (ten books for infants/toddlers, ten books for preschool, and ten books for children in K-3) that can be used in the classroom as “bibliotherapy” to support the exploration of feelings related to social/emotional competence.
2. Create an annotated reference list of these books, which includes the following:
a. An APA reference entry for each book
b. The age group this book is intended for
c. The bibliotherapy topic it aligns to
d. A summary of the book (in your own words) PART II: Lesson Plans
1. Select one book from your resource list for each age level
2. Using the MDC SOE lesson plan templates, create a lesson plan for each of the three books selected for implementation with each age group
3. You will implement each lesson plan. The preschool lesson plan must be implemented in your clinical experience setting. The infant/toddler and primary grade implementation may be implemented in a classroom setting if one is available to you. If it is not, you may implement these lessons with children you have access to (these may be your own children, family members, friends, after school care).
4. You will take pictures of the experiences and record each implementation. The pictures and videos must be included in your paper. Videos must be uploaded on to YouTube and set to unlisted.
PART III: Implementation and Reflection
1. Please provide a detailed reflection of each experience, which includes:
a. Description of the setting and overall implementation experience
b. Why did you choose this book? What topic does it address? How will this discussion of this topic benefit the children in this class?
c. What strategies/props did you use to actively facilitate discussion of these topics?
d. Reflect on the children’s responses to the questions you asked and the discussion you facilitated. What did these responses tell you?
e. What evidence do you have of student learning and engagement?
f. How do you feel bibliotherapy provides guidance and positive support in the classroom?
g. What is the role of bibliotherapy in a strong classroom management plan?
h. Overall, what were the successes and setbacks of this experience?
2. The assignment should be written in an organized, logical, and understandable style with appropriate mechanics (grammar and syntax) and using APA style citing at least 3 current published references (published within the last 10 years). Strong papers (those obtaining mastery) must include citations in order to support your assertions.
