The topic will be relevant to human cognition and learning and may include such areas as information processing (sensory input, working memory, long term memory, executive processes etc.); beliefs about cognition and learning (self-efficacy, intelligence theories, IQ testing, socio-cultural influences etc.); reading (emergent literacy, reading instruction, text-processing, metacognitive strategies etc.); cognition (problem-solving, decision-making, dual-coding theory, metacognition, automaticity etc.); writing ( beliefs about writing, strategies for writing, teaching writing etc.). I will supply the list of articles from which you may choose the one that is most relevant or appealing to you. If you have questions about a topic, please email me for input.
You will need to choose your article and find it from the APA citation provided. After reading your article, I want you to 1) summarize the purpose and main themes of the article and 2) discuss your own reasons for choosing the article/topic and 3) how you can use this information in your life or career. The paper should be approximately 4 pages in length. It will be due on the date indicated in the course schedule.
The purpose of this paper is to allow you to explore a topic that catches your interest. We move so quickly through the material in this class and there will be topics that you wish to know more about. This paper allows you to take a deeper look at these topics (at least one of them).
