The minimum word count for the argument essay is 1,200 words. Remember that your title, name, course information, and date are not included in the word count.
The essay will be a minimum of 9 paragraphs:
1)Introduction including the thesis
2) – 8) Body paragraphs in emphatic order including a possible objection
9) Conclusion paragraph including recommendations
Stance (thesis)
The thesis needs all of the following: a) the topic you are arguing, b) the direction of your stance (pro, con, other), and c) the reasons supporting your stance.
Tone/word choice
Like all essays, the tone will be more formal. This means only using the third person point of view (they/she/he/it). Writers cannot use I/me/we/us/you/your/you/re, etc.
Word choice needs to be neutral and respectful of the audience.
Outside sources
No outside sources can be used. Essays that contain source material will earn at most a D.
