For your culminating assignment, you are required to compare your supplementary reading novel with one text we have studied in class this year. This will take the form of a comparison essay, of approximately 1200-1700 words.
Before handing in, be sure to do the following:
❏ Adhere to the word limit of 1200-1700 words
❏ Use proper MLA formatting and structure (12-point font, double-space, include page numbers, justify your text, include a works cited)
❏ Write in the present tense (this is a literary essay)
❏ Include a proper works cited (only include the sources you used, not ones you’ve
looked up – current sources, including your novel)
❏ Review how to embed citations properly for your type of source
❏ Include a total word count at the end of your essay (it does not include the works cited)
❏ Underline your thesis only in the introduction
❏ Use transition words to indicate new points
❏ Utilize the point-proof-explanation (comment) format: the analysis contains your secondary sources – just providing a quotes is not enough; how does this quote support your point?
❏ 3 arguments (2-3 points per argument)
❏ Topic (argument) and concluding sentences (connect what you wrote back to your thesis – how does it prove your thesis? Don’t just simply state, “this proves my thesis”)
❏ Avoid the use of contractions, no personal pronouns
❏ Use proper grammar, sentence craft and writing mechanics
❏ If you don’t know how to use the semicolon properly, don’t use it!
