Writing assignment for Enos: The Space Between Us Book
1. In Chapters 5, 6, 7 and 8, Enos describes a series of experiments to more rigorously analyze
the effect of different spatial configurations on political attitudes and behavior. Which of
these chapters is most convincing relative to the others, and why?
2. Is the overall message of the book (across the multiple studies in multiple locations) more
optimistic or pessimistic concerning the ways in which space is likely to shape intergroup
relations in the future? (Pay especially close attention here to his arguments in Chapter 9)
If you blow it off and clearly demonstrate that you have not read the book, then of course you will not get full credit. But think of this as a ‘response paper’, so as long as you demonstrate that you have read the book and thought about it, it should be very easy to get full credit.
